Origami Castle
Stuyvesant Town, the Barbican, the towers around Wall Street: each was built as a promise about how many people could live, or work, well on one piece of ground. Seen from their parks and pavements, they read less like monuments than folded paper, all planes and creases, with daylight admitted by negotiation. Residents appear at a polite distance, keeping the promise going.
